I’ve been in a such a personal rally mode the past 3 years that I find myself slightly twitchy while a rally is happening at this moment…and I’m not in it.

Steve Chalmers is hosting a second rally beyond his Utah 1088 this year entitled Run What Ya Brung and I have various friends riding in it.

Most notably is Paul Peloquin who finished right next to me in the ‘07 IBR, also has an FJR, and a Jetta.

Currently, he’s getting pummeled by the remnants of Hurricane Gustav, has rediscovered that there’s no such thing as a “waterproof” boot, and having some electrical problems.

I feel for you Paul….

I feel for you all warm and dry in the office…..but I feel for you. ;)

I don’t know all of Paul’s specific details, but think his general arc will be one of heading to the Carolina,s up the Atlantic, towards Montreal and meander back to SLC somehow.  I know they have a 5,000 mile minimum, but would guess he’ll be more around 6,000 miles in 5 days…which is somewhat similar to my mileage in the SPANK rally.

The difference of this rally is that riders pre-announce their route.  After they locked in the route the night before the rally start…I don’t believe they can deviate from the route other than lessening it or as we call it in the rally biz….”a bail-out option”.

What’s fun is you can track his progress withing about 10 minutes with a SPOT unit like mine and his periodic audio blogs.
